JOB TITLE: DFM Engineer DEPARTMENT: Innovation - Systems Design REPORTS TO: VP Innovation LOCATION: HQ, Gilbert, AZ SUMMARY: You're passionate about a zero-emissions future and want to help build something special. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The focus will be to develop and implement world class designs and assembly processes to support release of Intelligent Battery Electric Power Systems for conversion to fully electric vehicles with commonality across a wide variety of platforms.
  • You will be working in all stages of the vehicle development process, from initial part models to full assembly kits and final vehicle conversions
  • This is a highly focused and demanding position that requires an engineer who can design and develop manufacturable solutions that optimize the partners conversion process.
  • Direct interface with Product Designers and Engineers to develop future Battery Systems kits with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) focus
  • Support Virtual Builds and create 3D simulations to review manufacturing feasibility
  • Validate tools, fixtures, and equipment with sourcing team and cross verify them during physical build
  • Develop MBOM and participate in MAKE vs BUY decision
  • Participate in design change control process and assess the impact in manufacturing
  • Develop proper error proofing (poka yoke) systems with focus on design before process solutions
  • Develop common manufacturing requirements documents and help create standard tool libraries
  • Ensure all timing milestones are met and are being tracked in relation to the program master schedule
  • Perform all necessary PFMEA's and required control plans based on known DFMEA and Process definitions
  • Focus on lean systems and methods for manufacturing - value added operations, minimize waste, short production systems, small lot material strategies, focus on the operator & safety
  • Support launch activities for area of responsibility from program kick-off through ramp acceleration
  • Flexible to support travel for product development reviews (minimum 20%) QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must have good visual knowledge of how things go together
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering - Industrial, Mechanical or Physics
    • Minimum (2) two years of related work experience
    • Must be self-motivated, and desire to continuously improve, learn and provide creative solutions
    • Experience using Solidworks and Siemens NX CAD
    • Working knowledge of automotive assembly process and constraints
    • Demonstrate an ability to manage complex projects with tight timing constraints.
    • Must be creative, a good communicator and a self-starter with a willingness to learn and have an over-delivery attitude.
    • Effective problem solver with knowledge and experience utilizing structured problem-solving methodology and experience introducing new products
    • Project launch experience from initial concept to final production
    • Exceptional organizational ability with good follow up skills and attention to details.
