Job Description:

Job Summary: Receive and process tissue and cytology specimens, assist with frozen sections, bone marrows, and fine needles, and provide clerical support in a laboratory setting.

This position involves receiving and triaging tissue and cytology specimens, providing necessary support functions, and assisting with frozen sections, bone marrows, and fine needles. The ideal candidate will have good communication, comprehension, and typing skills, as well as a significant understanding of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Pathology field.

Key Responsibilities:

• 
  
• Receive, access, and label specimens and corresponding paperwork, ensuring proper identification and specimen integrity.
  
• Assist pathologists or pathologist assistants with set-up functions, including printing cassettes.
  
• Prepare containers and cassettes for shipment to processing sites, placing in transport coolers with accompanying paperwork and routing slips.
  
• Assist with frozen sections by operating a cryostat, accessing, processing, cutting, and staining fresh samples for frozen section diagnosis.
  
• Assist with autopsies by ensuring all required supplies are available in the morgue and reviewing paperwork and documentation.
  
• Provide clerical assistance, including triaging phone calls to the appropriate pathologist or staff member.
  
• Maintain equipment, staining protocols, slide and block filing systems, retained tissue specimens, and other materials removed in surgery.
  
  
  Requirements:
  
  • 
    
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
    
  • 6 months previous medical laboratory experience in specimen handling skills.
    
  • Good communication, comprehension, and typing skills.
    
  • Significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Pathology field.
    
    
    Preferred Qualifications:
    
    • 
      
    • Additional related education and/or experience.
      
    • AA degree.
