Job Description:

The Production Pharmacist is responsible for the clinical pharmacy services including: prescription authorization of correct medication order entered, prescription verification of correct medication filled, generic substitution, and prescriber consultation. This individual will work collaboratively in the implementation of pharmacy programs and service offering while ensuring clinical compliance with law and regulatory bodies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Clinically review, authorize, and verify prescriptions for correct technician inputting, clinical appropriateness, and dispensing. This includes facilitation to pharmacy team members to recognize, rectify, and proactively collaborate in the prevention of mistakes that may influence patient care
  • Actively assess workload efficiency opportunities within job scope and provide constructive recommendations to supervisor(s) as part of a pharmacy team. This includes a collaborative effort to improve pharmacy workflow efficiencies while reducing prescription incidents/errors.
  • Coordinate, document, and execute the ordering and receipt of Schedule II Controlled Substance medications
  • Communicate with pharmacy teams to function as a collaborative healthcare model.
  • Communicate with prescribers to effectively optimize prescription drug regimens and therapeutic outcomes while reducing healthcare costs

Education & Experience:

  • A Doctor of Pharmacy OR an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy.
  • Unrestricted North Carolina Licensure Required. Multi-state Licensure a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of Retail/Mail Order production pharmacy experience with clinical emphasis.
  • Preference for individuals with high volume dispensing experience by which individual is able to make sound clinical judgments based on knowledge base.

Minimum Physical Requirement:

The Production Pharmacist will perform his or her work in a general office environment using standard office equipment. The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
  • Bend, twist or stoop on a repetitive and continuous basis
  • Stand and remain on feet for extended periods of time
  • Operate various business instruments, including computers, printers/scanners/fax machines, requiring manual dexterity
  • Sit and concentrate for long periods of time to compute, examine, and interpret data
  • Read paperwork and computer monitors, requiring visual acuity

  • Strong working knowledge of all aspects of clinical pharmacy operations

  • Ability to maintain and display a positive outlook in a transforming environment
  • Ability to concentrate in a busy environment with multiple distractions
