from board-certified/eligible medical, radiation, or surgical
oncologists for a newly created leadership position focused on
providing high-quality, high-value comprehensive care in BMDACC
facilities in Arizona and Colorado. The position includes a dual
role as the Chief Medical Officer for Oncology Quality, Safety &
Value at BH. The physician should have expertise and experience in
quality improvement principles, and of clinical and operational
processes, as well as the ability to engage members of the
healthcare team in supporting value initiatives. Formal training in
quality improvement is highly desirable, as is experience with
implementation of clinical pathways and cost/value propositions.
The position involves clinical care and clinical research
activities as well as expectations for participating in the
teaching mission of the institution.Banner-MD Anderson Cancer
Center has undergone remarkable growth as well as becoming a
trusted destination for many cancer patients throughout the region.
In addition to the main cancer center at Banner Gateway Medical
Center, the program now provides services at eight other Banner
hospital campuses (including Northern Colorado). Banner Cancer
Specialists employs over 200 physicians and advanced practice
providers, representing over 20 specialties. Banner-MD Anderson

multidisciplinary disease-site teams and expertise, exceptional

mission of providing excellent patient care.POSITION SUMMARYThis
position provides vision, medical direction, and ongoing
development of a clinical section at the Banner MD Anderson Cancer
Center (BMDACC), which has as its primary mission the provision of
excellent care to patients with solid tumor and hematological
malignancies. This position has responsibility for directing,
planning and coordinating all inpatient and outpatient clinical
activities associated within the section. This position will ensure
that these clinical activities are efficient, effective, and
appropriately support the research-driven, multidisciplinary,
patient-centered, clinical mission of the cancer center.CORE
FUNCTIONS:1. Develops, establishes and promotes the vision,
strategy, and focus for the assigned section at the cancer center.
This will be done in conjunction with the associated division head
at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center. Communicates
effectively and frequently with appropriate clinical and
administrative leadership, as well as with physicians and clinical
staff, to ensure that all operations of the section are aligned
with the vision, strategy and focus of the cancer center.2. Directs
all section clinical activities in coordination with the associated
division head at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer
Center, following appropriate protocols, practices and standards.
Coordinates and supports the development and adoption of pathways,
guidelines, benchmarks and metrics that will be used to support the
cancer center. Coordinates and supports the development and
adoption of the multidisciplinary care model that will be
operational at the cancer center. Acts as a clinical representative
for the cancer center with all entities including governmental
agencies, pharmaceutical companies, universities, etc.3. Manages
employed physicians in the assigned section, with responsibility
for the full range of employment activities including recruitment,
orientation, retention, mentoring, evaluation of performance and
professional competence. Oversees contracted physicians
participating in the cancer center. Develops, coordinates and
implements training and continuing medical education opportunities
for physicians within the section, which includes regular clinical
practice conferences, grand rounds, periodic participation in
cancer center conferences, as well as training at MD Anderson in
Houston when appropriate.4. Partners with administrative leadership
in resolving administrative issues, improving section operations
and in achieving operational goals as outlined in the "Oncology
Services Agreement." Actively participates in the development,
management and monitoring of the section's operations budget.
Actively participates in activities to improve patient safety,
provide patient-centered, appropriate and timely care, reduce
inappropriate variation, implement evidence-based standards,
enhance efficiency and throughput, and evaluate innovative clinical
methods and opportunities. Champions the use of technology to
continuously enhance performance. Serves as department chair for
Banner Gateway Medical Center as required by contract, thereby
assuming all responsibilities associated with that role.5.
Participates in system wide efforts to improve clinical care. Works
with appropriate facility operational leadership to establish,
monitor and improve clinical practice and outcomes within the
section. Ensures the section's compliance with internal and
external regulatory requirements. Performs all functions according
to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation
requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.6.
Collaborates with the Banner clinical research team and principal
investigators at M. D. Anderson in Houston and Banner to assure
that the section has access to appropriate clinical trials and
studies for its patient base. Ensures the conduct of high quality,
protocol-driven, clinical research among physicians in the section.
Encourages and participates in scholarly academic contributions to
the scientific literature.7. Participates in philanthropic
activities, including identification of potential donors,
cultivation, soliciation, stewardship and public speaking
engagements. Attends fundraising activities, as appropriate.8.
Maintains a part-time clinical practice at the cancer center.
Performs all functions according to established policies,
procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as
applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Banner
Health with an excellent service experience by consistently
demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.9.
This position has medical and administrative responsibility for
designated clinical section(s). Must interact effectively with all
levels of Banner Health leadership, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
leadership, governmental agencies, pharmaceutical companies,
universities, and/or other applicable internal and external
constituencies.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSDoctor of Medicine.Must be
eligible for, or hold, a current state license to practice medicine
and be eligible for medical staff privileges. Must also possess
current board certification in relevant specialty to assigned
section.Must possess significant clinical experience in a cancer
center with level of expertise typically gained with five years
experience in clinical practice. Must possess extensive skills in
written and verbal communication, presentation,
financial/statistical analysis, and use of computer systems and
software. Must also possess characteristics necessary to
effectively perform in this role including integrity,
collaboration, ability to work with teams, good listening,
nonvolatile, rational decision-making, values multiple disciplines,
visibility in the community, and passionate about continuously
improving and providing high quality care and service excellence to
patients, families, employees and physicians.PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONSExperience in managing clinical operations in an
oncology organization preferred.Experience with continuous quality
improvement activities preferred.
